June Corporate Roundtable with PNC
Benson Gabler is the Manager of Corporate Sustainability for The PNC Financial Services Group. In this position, Benson is charged with the coordination of the company's sustainability strategy, which focuses on improving PNC's impact on the environment and educating its stakeholders on sustainability topics. His projects involve operational improvements in waste management, dining services and procurement decisions, as well as calculating the company's carbon footprint and coordinating its LEED™ application program. He also leads PNC's Product + Service Innovation Team, which evaluates materials and systems to utilize throughout its 3000+ facilities. Benson has previously worked on sustainability issues for Stonyfield Farm, Yale University, GreenBlue Institute, and Braungart Consulting. He holds a BA from the University of Virginia, and a MBA and a Master of Environmental Management (MEM) from Yale University.

Ohio By-Product Synergy (BPS) Network Kick-Off Meeting in Columbus

As the environmental movement continues to gain momentum, corporations are called upon to respond to the expectations of consumers. These consumers are getting smarter about buying with sustainability in mind. They want to do business with companies who exhibit a strong commitment to the environment while making the products they will purchase. And for them, evaluating environmental commitments goes beyond green product offerings and extends to an evaluation of a company's commitment to sustainable practices and social responsibility. Steve Revnew, vice president of product development for Sherwin-Williams, will provide insight into the state of green trends for the paints and coatings industry, and will discuss how Sherwin-Williams is meeting consumer expectations to be a green company from the inside out.

Dr. Joseph Fiksel is Executive Director of the Center for Resilience at The Ohio State University, and Principal and Co-Founder of the consulting firm Eco-Nomics LLC. He is a recognized authority on sustainable business practices, with over 25 years of research and consulting experience for multi-national companies, government agencies and consortia such as the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. Currently the Center for Resilience and Dr. Fiksel have embarked on the Ohio By-Product Synergy (BPS) project with the goal of matching under-valued waste or by-product streams with potential users, helping to create new revenues or savings for the organizations involved while simultaneously reducing environmental burdens.

The Ohio Manufacturers’ Association (OMA)
are pleased to invite manufacturers to attend the second in a series of workshops: “The New Energy Climate for Ohio Manufacturers II.”
With funding from the Ohio EPA’s Environ-
mental Education Fund, the Voinovich School and OMA will provide information on current state and national energy and climate policy and share tools and examples of ways that Ohio manufacturers can prepare, adapt and succeed. Over 50 energy and business leaders from around the state attended the first
workshop in June 2009.

December Corporate Roundtable with Ed Aghajanian
Ed Aghajanian, founder and president of EZ Brite Brands, Inc., a "Zero Waste" company in Westlake, Ohio, that develops and manufactures over 40 natural, sustainable, food-safe soaps and kitchen-cleaning products, will be speaking about his 19 years as a Zero-Waste Manufacturer.
EZ Brite is best-known for its original product, Penny Brite Copper Cleaner - a "must have" under kitchen sinks since 1947. But EZ Brite Brands also manufactures and distributes a complete line of people/pet/planet-friendly, kitchen-cleaning products, including private-label products for Calphalon Corp. and Corning-Revere.
Recently named a "2009 Champion of Sustainability" in Northeast Ohio by Entrepreneurs For Sustainability (E4S), Mr. Aghajanian will explain how his decision to cancel the trash service and have his company's dumpster removed in 1991 marked the beginning of his 19-year Zero Waste sustainability track. He will discuss how operating at Zero Waste has impacted his business, including product quality, efficiencies, costs, etc. He will also address the challenges of moving to a Zero Waste operating level today. Finally, he will speak on EZ Brite's current green initiatives, including possible power cogeneration at his manufacturing facility from renewable sources, primarily wind energy.

Misys plc is a global consulting firm that provides innovative, integrated solutions for the banking, treasury, and capital markets and healthcare industries. The company is currently partnering with The Climate Registry to help the standards-setting organization develop a new online green house gas (GHG) emissions reporting system. The new system, due out in 2010, will support voluntary and mandatory emissions reporting and will have the ability to generate more comprehensive emissions reports and a more robust verification model. This partnership and the resulting program are the newest edition to Misys’ growing portfolio of environmental solutions for business. Misys will be at Corporate Roundtable on November 13th to discuss the company’s movements to integrate sustainability into their business practices.

The Taylor Companies, founded in 1816, has a long history of providing quality office furniture to its customers. The oldest furniture manufacturer in the United States, the Taylor Companies continue to lead by example with socially and environmentally responsible business practices. Jeff Baldassari will be sharing his company’s experience working with the State of Ohio to develop a new manufacturing facility for Taylor Companies on a brownfield remediation site in Bedford, Ohio. Baldassari will provide perspective on the Clean Ohio Program, the Ohio Enterprise Bond Program, the various incentive programs run by the state to encourage investment by the private sector into brownfield remediation, and how the experience of this project galvanized his Company’s efforts to become a socially responsible manufacturer that employs sustainable operations which are transparently reported.
